    After the Iranian envoy to the U.N. Human Rights Council wrote a letter to his fellow diplomats questioning the historical fact of the Holocaust, the League called on U.N. leaders to speak out forcefully against Iran’s continuing Holocaust denial and to reaffirm the world body’s commitment to Holocaust education and awareness.

  • Evangelicals and Israel: Defining the Relationship
    Writing in Time Magazine in a counterpoint to a piece by journalist Zev Chafets, ADL explained that while Christian Evangelical support for Israel is welcomed and encouraged, the relationship does not come at the price of abandoning principles of maintaining an America where Jews and other minorities do not feel excluded.

    During a debate over the issue of an apology for slavery in a Virginia House of Delegates session, Del. Frank D. Hargrove asserted that Blacks citizens should “get over it” and then asked, “Are we going to force the Jews to apologize for killing Christ?” The League denounced his bigoted words and called on him to apologize for his anti-Semitic remark.   • Houston: DA Honored for Hate Crime Prosecution
    ADL’s Houston Office honored prosecutor Mike Trent and the Harris County, Texas District Attorney’s Office for their successful prosecution of two men responsible for the brutal beating and sodomizing of a Hispanic teenager. One of the perpetrators, a self-proclaimed racist skinhead, received a life sentence for his role in the hate crime.

  • New Jersey: Seminar Calls for Action On Sudan
    Nearly 125 students and 30 teachers from high schools across New Jersey, including Morristown, Montville and Pequannock high schools in Morris County, attended a daylong conference sponsored by a broad array of community organizations, including ADL, on advocating for action in response to the ongoing ethnic atrocities in Darfur, Sudan.

Carter Center Resignations
Fourteen members of a Carter Center advisory board resigned in protest of the publication of Jimmy Carter's book, "Palestine Peace Not Apartheid" saying that they could "no longer in good conscience continue to serve the center" based on both on the former President's assertions in the book and his subsequent comments made in promoting it. Their letter to President Carter says that he has “clearly abandoned his historic role of broker in favor of becoming an advocate for one side.” More >>
